Become an Examiner

Speech NZ examiners are highly skilled professionals, who examine Speech NZ syllabus examinations and assessments all over the country, in person and via Zoom. If you are interested in becoming an examiner, please submit your application below.

A performance examiner must hold one of the following:

  • Hold one of the following qualifications:

    • LSB (Licentiate from New Zealand Speech Board) or FSB (Fellowship from New Zealand Speech Board) in either Speech and Drama OR Public Speaking, OR

    • Equivalent qualifications from another acknowledged examination entity (e.g. Trinity College), OR

    • Diploma in Professional Speaking from the Speech New Zealand

  • Equivalent relevant qualifications from a tertiary institute e.g. a Bachelor's in Media Studies/Arts/Literature/Education. These will be assessed on an individual basis.

Trainees must hold at least one of the qualifications listed above and be working towards completing a second Licentiate or its endorsement. In addition, trainees must have a proven familiarity with the Speech New Zealand syllabi and culture.

Become an oral assessor

Speech NZ Oral Assessors Kaiarotake are skilled professionals who examine Speech NZ Oral Communication and Language Literacy Syllabus Aromatawai-ā-waha me te Marautanga Reo. The requirements to become an oral assessor Kaiarotake are as follows:

  • They are a tertiary trained educator who has/is teaching Oral Communication/Speech and Drama/Public Speaking/Flexi in the classroom/private practice.

  • They have teaching experience in a drama school, personal development in grade work when they were younger, or are part-way through a relevant qualification.

Applicants without either are welcome to apply and undertake an interview with the Examination Committee.

Oral Assessors Kaiarotake play an essential part in the Speech NZ team by ensuring that students’ ākonga experience of Oral Assessments aromatawai-ā-waha is in every respect stimulating, challenging, and rewarding.
