Oral Communication
Candidates will
- engage with and enjoy oral language in all its varieties
 
- understand, respond to and use oral language effectively in a range of contexts
As required by the English Curriculum produced by the Ministry of Education, The Speech New Zealand Oral Communication Programme supports the work of classroom teachers in schools at all levels. It is also suitable for use by Community Groups.

The Oral Communication Syllabus -
- Provides opportunities to explore language
 
- Develops the ability to think critically
 
- Assists students to process information
 
- Provides opportunities to demonstrate and instruct
 
- Encourages discussion and listening skills
 
- Develops communication confidence in a supportive environment
 
- Encourages the enthusiastic, fluent and effective sharing of ideas
 
- Promotes clear, lively speech
 
- Rewards candidates with badges or certificates marking their achievement
Assessments are conducted in a supportive environment by qualified and experienced professionals.

Oral Communication Assistance Fund
This is a new fund created from donations made by some Speech New Zealand Board members.
Where a candidate in a class or school group who is entering for an Oral Communication Assessment has difficulty meeting the examination fee, an application may be made by the school for the fee to be met from the OC Assistance Fund.
Please contact your Local Secretary or National Office: info@speechnz.co.nz for an application form. The completed form must be handed back to your Local Secretary 8 weeks before the examination date.
