 Frequently asked questions

How can I enter for an exam?

If you are having lessons with a speech teacher, whether privately or at a school, your speech teacher will organise this for you.  All areas have set times for exams  and your teacher has a list of these.  Money and the entry form must reach the local secretary on or before the entry closing date - which is usually six weeks prior to the commencement of the exams.  If you're entering for an exam on your own make sure you know when the closing date is and that your entry form and money reaches the local secretary on or before the closing date, which is listed on the examination schedule.

How will I know when my exam time is?

If you are entering an exam through a school your teacher will organise the timetable and let you know what time she/he has organised for you.

If you are entering through a private speech teacher the local secretary will organise the timetable and your teacher will be sent the exam notification slip 3 weeks prior to the exam.  If you have a special request regarding the timing of your exam we do our best to take this into account.

How can I get an idea of what type of questions are asked in theory examinations?

You can find a few exemplar papers on the website in the resource section - under theory.  We also have some sample answers listed there so that you can get an idea of the expected standard.

For a wider range of questions you can order past questions from us at a cost of $2.00 per paper.  Email us on  info@speechnz.co.nz and let us know what credits you would like.  Payment for these must be received before papers are sent out.

What can I do if I have lost my badge?

A replacement one can easily be ordered by phoning or emailing the office at the current replacement badge rate.  In 2010 this is $7.00

When are the exams in my area?

The exam times are set at the beginning of each year and you can find the list of these on our home page -  click on the section that says exam schedule.
